For a long time, September 24 was a date marked boldly in my calendar. Over the past 20 weeks, September 24 never seemed like it was rapidly approaching. I enjoyed every minute of my summer and despite my dedicated training, it didn’t occur to me that September 24 was, in fact, right around the corner. … More » 0 Comments

On Monday night I took a Chisel class at the gym. I hadn’t been to class — or done any quality strength training — for a few weeks. I was convinced all my hard-earned strength would be lost and I envisioned myself begrudgingly downgrading from my 8-pound dumbbells to the 7-pounders. But hey! That didn’t … More » 2 Comments

I’ve been told by all my runner friends that tapering is the worst part of training. It’s when you cut back on your mileage and your intensity and you just kind of recover, rest and let your body gear up for race day. That doesn’t sound fun to me. I want to keep running like … More » 0 Comments

Since late April, I’ve been diligently training for the Hamptons Marathon. For a long time, that marathon seemed so far away. I focused my energy each week on my weekday runs and my weekend long run. I never really thought much about the actual marathon. The training was what mattered most immediately, so that’s what … More » 0 Comments

This week marks the last big week of marathon training before September 24. Today I conquered some speedwork (though it was semi-unsuccessful due to an over-active stomach). Tomorrow I’ll run 6 breezy miles with a friend through Central Park. Thursday is some tempo fun and Friday is yoga day. Then, on Saturday, I’ll run my … More » 0 Comments

Today is August 24. The Hamptons Marathon is on September 24. Let’s do some math, shall we? I have one month until race day. One month from today and I’ll be stepping up to that start line with fresh legs, a calm stomach and a crookedly-pinned race bib. Confession: I suck at pinning on race … More » 0 Comments

I never run at night. I’m a morning girl. I’ll gladly wake up at 5 am to bang out a few miles while the sun comes up. But ask me to lace up my Brooks past 10 am and I’ll probably throw a little temper tantrum and list the reasons I don’t like evening running. … More » 0 Comments

One year ago, I loved running. But that’s it. I loved it, but I wasn’t super attached or addicted to it. Running was something I did and something I enjoyed. I ran the New York City Half Marathon in March 2010, but didn’t sign up for any races after that. In fact, I didn’t run … More » 1 Comment
